Singapore Layover Essentials

Quick tips to make your transit from Changi Airport as smooth as possible.

Visa & Entry

Most travelers enter visa-free. You MUST submit the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) online up to 3 days before entry.

Transport (MRT)

Use your contactless Visa/Mastercard or phone (Apple Pay/Google Pay) directly at MRT gantries and on buses.

Currency

Singapore is nearly cashless. 95% of places accept cards, though small hawker stalls might prefer cash (SGD).

Connectivity

Free Wi-Fi (built-in at Changi) is everywhere. For the city, eSIMs are the easiest option for short transits.

"I was extremely anxious about leaving Changi Airport and missing my connection. I bought the $3 Airport-Safe PDF, and it was a complete lifesaver. The taxi instructions, transit times, and return buffer were perfectly accurate. Got back to my terminal with two hours to spare!"

8-Hour Stopover ยท Scenery Vibe

"The food guides in Singapore are usually overwhelming, but this itinerary was hyper-focused. The local coffee (Kopi) cheatsheet in the PDF is worth the price alone. I successfully ordered Kopi-C Siew Dai and got the best Hainanese Chicken Rice at Maxwell Food Centre!"

"With only 4 hours, I didn't think I could leave the airport. The guide showed me exactly how to clear immigration in 10 minutes, take a quick Grab to the Gardens by the Bay, and return on time. Truly exceptional planning tool."

Changi Airport Layover FAQ

Everything you need to know about exiting Changi Airport and exploring Singapore during your transit.

Of course! Even if you only have a 4-hour transit, you have enough time to exit, clear immigration, and experience Jewel or even a quick dash to the city. Many travelers also qualify for the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) which allows certain nationalities to enter Singapore without a visa for up to 96 hours. Check the official ICA website (https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore/visa-free-transit-facility) for eligibility.

Many travelers can enter Singapore visa-free for up to 90 days. However, you MUST complete the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) online within 3 days before your arrival. Some nationalities may require a pre-approved visa. Check the ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority) website for the latest requirements.

It is very quick! By taxi or Grab, it takes about 20-30 minutes and costs SGD 20-40. By MRT (train), it takes about 45-60 minutes and costs less than SGD 3. MRT is highly efficient but note that the last train usually leaves Changi around 11:18 PM.

We recommend at least 5 hours if you want to leave the airport. For the Jewel Changi (which is technically outside immigration but attached to the airport), 2-3 hours is enough. Our itineraries are specifically tailored for 4, 8, and 12-hour windows to ensure you get back on time.

Yes, there are 'Baggage Storage' counters in all terminals (both in the transit and public areas) and at Jewel. Rates are based on size and duration. We recommend leaving heavy bags at the airport so you can explore the city unencumbered.

Singapore is very safe at night. You can visit the Night Safari, enjoy satay at Lau Pa Sat (open 24/7), or see the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay which remains lit until late. Check our 'Night Transit Guide' for a full evening itinerary.
