Transport: Grab · Vibe: Singapore from angles no tourist itinerary shows · Pace: Active
This itinerary takes you off the Marina Bay postcard route entirely — at least at first. Henderson Waves and Mount Faber are the Singapore that locals know and visitors almost never reach. Then the itinerary ends at the SkyPark for the highest public view in the city. Three completely different elevations, three completely different perspectives of the same island.
Time needed: 10 minutes
Download Grab before landing. Clear immigration and book from the Level 1 Arrivals kerb. Henderson Waves is your first stop — a 25-minute ride southwest from Changi.
Grab fare to Henderson Waves: $20–28 SGD, 22–30 minutes.
⚠️ Heat advisory: The Southern Ridges are exposed rainforest paths. Go before 10 AM if possible. Bring water — there are limited facilities at Henderson Waves itself.
Arrive: ~30 min after leaving Changi · Duration: 40 minutes · Cost: Free
Henderson Waves is a 274-metre undulating pedestrian bridge made from yellow balau hardwood, connecting two sections of the Southern Ridges park connector at 36 metres above ground. It was completed in 2008 and has won multiple architecture awards. Almost nobody on a Singapore layover has heard of it.
The wave form of the bridge creates seven pods — sheltered arched chambers underneath each crest where you can sit, look out at the rainforest canopy below, and hear nothing but cicadas and wind. Walk the full length to the far end, sit in one of the pods for 5 minutes, then walk back.
📸 Photo moment: Standing at one end of the bridge, shoot the full length toward the vanishing point where the bridge disappears into the forest canopy. The repeating wood-arch structure and the green tunnel of trees framing the bridge is a photograph that looks nothing like the Singapore in travel magazines — and is more interesting for it.
💡 Local tip: The Southern Ridges trail continues from Henderson Waves through HortPark and Alexandra Hill to Labrador Nature Reserve — a continuous 10km of elevated rainforest walking with intermittent city views. On a longer layover, this trail is one of the most unusual free experiences in Singapore.
Arrive: ~1h 25min after leaving Changi · Duration: 30 minutes · Cost: Free
Grab from Henderson Road to Mount Faber takes 8 minutes. The road winds up to 116 metres above sea level — the second highest hill on the main island — where the observation platform gives unobstructed 270-degree views of the CBD skyline, Sentosa island, and the container port below.
The view north from Mount Faber looking toward the city centre is unlike the Marina Bay waterfront view — it is higher, further, and includes the residential towers and forested hills of the southern ridge in the foreground. It is a view of Singapore as a whole city rather than a postcard skyline.
📸 Photo moment: North-facing panorama from the observation platform — the CBD towers in the distance, forested hillside in the foreground, and the container ships in the southern anchorage visible on the right. This is an honestly unusual Singapore photograph.
💡 Optional upgrade: The Singapore Cable Car from Mount Faber to Sentosa costs $35 SGD return and takes 8 minutes each way. The aerial view of the southern harbour from the cable car gondola is extraordinary. For a 4-hour layover this adds 50 minutes and is tight — consider it for the 8-hour itinerary version. Arrive: ~2h 15min after leaving Changi · Duration: 35 minutes · Cost: $23–32 SGD
Grab from Mount Faber to Marina Bay Sands takes 20 minutes. The SkyPark Observation Deck on the 57th floor is the highest publicly accessible viewpoint in Singapore. The three towers of Marina Bay Sands are connected at the top by a 340-metre skybridge — the observation deck runs along this bridge.
The north-facing view looks down onto Gardens by the Bay — the Supertrees visible from above, the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome conservatory domes in the middle ground, and the bay and sea beyond. This top-down perspective of the gardens is only available from here.
Book tickets in advance to avoid queuing at the counter.

📸 Photo moment: Looking north from the SkyPark — the Supertrees directly below and in front, the full bay behind them, and the South China Sea visible on the horizon on clear days. This top-down Supertree canopy shot is a perspective unavailable from any other public vantage point in Singapore.
Book Grab from Marina Bay Sands. Changi Airport is 25 minutes away. Alternatively walk to Bayfront MRT (5 minutes) and take the CC/DT Line to Tanah Merah, change to CG Line — 30 minutes total, $2.10 SGD.

"Photo moment: Stand at the midpoint of Henderson Waves and shoot the full length of the bridge — the undulating yellow balau wood wave structure receding into the rainforest canopy on both sides. This is the most architecturally unique pedestrian bridge in Singapore and almost entirely absent from tourist itineraries."
Pro Tip: Henderson Waves is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore at 36 metres above Henderson Road. It connects the Southern Ridges park connector — a continuous 10km trail through the forested southern ridge of the island. At 7 AM you will share it with joggers and dog walkers. By 9 AM the heat arrives. Go early.
Why this stop
Henderson Waves Bridge — Southern Ridges is included because it delivers the strongest visual payoff for a short Changi stopover.
If short on time
If time gets tight, cap this at 40 minutes and protect the return-to-airport buffer.
Tourist trap warning
The common trap is over-staying for photos. Get the moment, then move before the buffer disappears.
Cheaper alternative
Cheaper move: keep this stop free, then spend only on food or transport.
"Photo moment: From the Mount Faber observation point looking north across the CBD skyline. The perspective from 116 metres — forested hill foreground, glass towers midground, open sky behind — is a view of Singapore that most visitors never see because almost no tourist itinerary includes it."
Pro Tip: Mount Faber is one of Singapore's oldest hilltop parks and at 116 metres gives unobstructed views of the city skyline, Sentosa island, and the port below. The cable car from Mount Faber to Sentosa is a classic Singapore experience ($35 SGD). With 4 hours you can take the cable car one way to Sentosa, walk to Siloso Beach, and Grab back to the city — but that adds 90 minutes and is a separate itinerary variant.
Why this stop
Mount Faber — Panoramic City View is included because it delivers the strongest visual payoff for a short Changi stopover.

"Photo moment: From the northern edge of the SkyPark looking east — the full Gardens by the Bay is directly below and in front, with the bay and the sea visible behind it. This top-down perspective of the Supertrees — seeing the canopy from above rather than below — is one of the most unusual angles in Singapore photography."
Pro Tip: The SkyPark is on the 57th floor and is the highest public observation area in Singapore. The infinity pool is reserved for hotel guests only — the observation deck is open to everyone with a ticket. Buy tickets in advance on Klook to avoid queuing at the counter.
